Issue: Symmetra PX 250/500; What does the EPO (Emergency Power Off) trip Product line: Symmetra PX 250/500 Environment: All serial numbers Cause: What occurs when the EPO on a Symmetra PX 250/500 button is engaged? Resolution: When the EPO is activated, UPS output breaker Q2 and the battery breakers are tripped. The Power Modules (inverter) and if in Static Bypass operation will the UPS turn off

Issue: Flood of RTC Time adjusted values in the logs Product line: Symmetra PX 250/500 with AP9635 Environment: All Product models, all serial numbers Cause: When 2 Network Management Card (NMC) are installed in the UPS and set to NTP (Network Time Protocol), they will fight for control of the time to the display and continually send info alerts on RTC Time Adjusted. In the chart below you will notice in column 5 there are two different numbers 2 & 4, which would indicate that there is 2 NMC in the UPS one in position #2 and the other in position #4. This is the indicators that 2 NMC are fighting to provide time through NTP 46934 Info IM internal memory for storing configuration settings is OK IO enclosure level 3 pos E 02-26-2015 17:12:53 006 46933 Info RTC Time adjusted value Parallel UPS 1 2 02-26-2015 17:12:53 000 46932 Info RTC Time old value 2 02-28-2015 17:12:57 446 46931 Info IM internal memory for storing configuration settings is OK IO enclosure level 3 pos E 02-28-2015 17:12:49 006 46930 Info RTC Time adjusted value Parallel UPS 1 4 02-28-2015 17:12:49 000 46929 Info RTC Time old value 4 02-26-2015 17:12:44 548 Resolution: Set only one of the NMC to NTP

Issue: What happens when PX1, PX2 and 250/500K PX is EPO'd Product line: Symmetra PX Environment: All models, all serial numbers Cause: This document describes how the Symmetra PX reacts to the EPO circuit being activated. Emergency Power Off (EPO) is the capability to power down a piece of electronic equipment or an entire installation, in the case of an emergency, from a single point by activating a push button. For 20K, 40K, 80K PX: If the EPO circuit in the Symmetra PX is activated the System Enable Switch turns to the off position, the DC Breaker in the Main Frame or in the XR Frame (80kw units only) also switches to off. Mains feed CB will be tripped on ISX PDU. There is no power on the output of the XR Battery Frames or on the output of the Symmetra PX UPS. An EPO event is not recorded in the Event Log. For 100K PX: Only the Battery CBs on XR frames will be tripped. Customer would need to have optional shut trip on Upstream CB to turn off input power to UPS. For 250K/500K PX: All Battery CBs on battery frames and Q2 will be tripped Resolution: Reset EPO switch and follow proper procedures to restart UPS

Issue: Symmetra PX 250/500 Battery to Power Module Ratio Product line: Symmetra PX 250/500 Environment: All Product models, all serial numbers Cause: Required battery to power module ratio for a Symmetra PX 250/500 Resolution: Ratio between numbers of battery shelves and power modules (PM) Maximum recommended discharge level on the batteries used for Symmetra PX 250/500 is 3CA, where CA means the current (Amps) by which the battery is charged or discharged divided by its Amp-hour (Ah) rating. The 250kW runtime ratio is 10 PMs to 16 battery shelves resulting in a ratio of 1.6 battery shelf per 1 PM. Need to always round up the number of shelves Results if ratio is not maintained In some situations, the Power Modules will attempt to draw power from the batteries and if the ratio is not observed, you will potentially clear fuses in the battery modules and (less likely, but it happened before) burn traces on the battery backplane boards due to the DC inrush current.

Issue: Changing Symmetra PX 250/500 System Time from NMC - Configuring NTP server Product line: Symmetra PX 250/500 Environment: All Product models, all serial numbers Cause: Time not updating on UPS when changed on NMC Resolution: Making changes on the NMC web interface will also make changes on the ups, but the NMC must first be configured for Read/Write in the user configuration settings on the UPS. Once this is configured making changes on the NMC will update the display on UPS. When changing NMC configuration to update Time using NTP, you need to pay attention to the update Interval. It can be set from 1 to 8760 hours(1 year). Make sure this is configured as needed. If time is not immediately updating, click the UPDATE Now box and click apply. You may need to refresh screen on UPS a couple times to see the change.
