A FEW FAQS

Issue: OCA fault on ATV21/ATV212 drives? Product line: Altivar 212, ATV212, S-Flex Environment: All models, all serial numbers. Cause: Overcurrent during start-up or ground fault Resolution: OCA - short-circuit detected in drive output inverter stage during motor startup Check that Line and Load cables are connected to the proper terminals. Line cables go to R/L1, S/L2 and T/L3. Load or motor cables go to U/T1, V/T2 and W/T3. Disconnect the motor leads from the drive. Using a 1000V Megger, check the motor and motor leads for shorts or ground fault. Try a voltage balance test. With the motor leads still disconnected, set parameter F605 to 0 (disable Output Phase Failure). Run the drive at 20Hz, 40Hz and 60Hz. At each speed measure the line to line output voltages to see if they are balanced.

Issue: SOF fault on the Altivar Process Drive Product Line: Altivar Process Drive (ATV630, ATV930, ATV650, ATV950, ATV660, ATV960, ATV680, ATV980) Environment: All serial numbers for Altivar Process Drive Cause: N/A Resolution: Principle This fault appears when an overspeed is present on the drive. Probable Cause Instability or driving load too high. Typically caused by a load driving the motor to spin faster than the drive is attempting to run it. Remedies The motor may be turning when the drive gets a run command. Turn on Catch on the Fly In the Motor parameters menu (5 Complete Settings -> 5.2 Motor parameters): Try changing the [Dual rating] to Heavy Duty Try changing the [Motor control type] to U/F VC Standard (available on the ATV6xx) Check the motor, gain and stability parameters. Check the size of the motor/inverter/load. Add a braking resistor. Note: We've seen a few instances where just changing the two parameters in the Motor parameters menu have corrected the issue. However, please be aware that changing the drive to heavy duty de-rates the drive by one HP class. Example: A 50HP drive would now be a 40HP drive

Issue: Needs informaiton on the Sleep Boost Speed Function on Altivar Process drives. Product line: Altivar Process, ATV630, ATV930 Environment: All models using Sleep function Cause: New parameter that was not available on the older drives. Resolution: The Sleep boost is intended to provide the user with a longer sleep time by increasing the system pressure slightly, just before going to sleep (stopping). To enable Sleep boost, you must set a Sleep Boost Speed [SLbS] value (Frequency at which you want the drive to run) and the Sleep Boost Time [SLbt] (for how long you want the boost to be activated). NOTE: Take care to not overpressure the system by putting the frequency too high, or boost time for too long Example - Sleep Detect Mode [SLPn] = Speed [Spd] Sleep Min Speed [SLSL] = 30Hz Sleep Delay [SLPd] = 20s When running for 20s at 30Hz, the drive will enter the Sleep mode and stop running at the current pressure level. If you enable the Sleep boost Sleep Boost Speed [SLbS] = 40Hz Sleep Boost Time [SLbt] = 60s After running at Low speed for 20s, the drive will ramp up to 40Hz for 60s to increase the system pressure and then stop running (sleep mode).

Issue: ATS48 softstart sizing for high elevation usage Product Line: Altistart ATS48 Environment: All Cause: Derating for high altitude Resolution: Maximum operating altitude is 3300 feet without derating. Above this, the softstart will need to be derated by by 2.2% for each additional 330 feet to the maximum of 6600 feet based upon softstart current rating. Example: 40HP 460VAC Soft Starter is normally an ATS48D62Y however if you are going to use this unit at 6000 ft you will need to up size by 1 or more. So you will need to use a ATS48D75Y for a 40HP 480VAC. 3300 feet is basic rating without derating. 6000 feet - 3300 feet = 2700 feet. Derate by 2.2% each 330 additional feet. 2700 ft / 330 ft = 8.1818 X 2.2%= 18% current derate of the product. Soft Starter is rated for 75 amps X 18%= derate of 13.5 amps or 75amps minus 13.5 amps = 61.5 amps ATS48D75Y now only rated for 61.5 amps not 75 amps. Derating Drives operating at 6000 ft will be as follows. 62 amp ATS48D62Y is rated for only 51 amps.
